I had a sense of caring and vibrant community, coming together on a frigid day to celebrate the lake at the center of so much of our lives. Sharing the inspiration and wisdom and knowledge of the speakers helped deepen this sense of community for me. I feel great gratitude to all the characters and land and plants and animals that brought Adrianna and her helpers to create this learning connecting time. It was magical for me. (3/3/15)
Adrianna - Thank you so much for organizing this wonderful event! I wish everyone shared your enthusiasm for water bugs, who knew they could tell us so much about water quality. I am going to start looking at the bugs under the rocks at our property on the northwest side of Seneca Lake!
Akiva, a true woodland spirit, made me think outside that box of cornflakes. I can't wait for good weather and an opportunity to take my family on one of Akiva's guided tree walks!
Thanks for a great day! (3/3/15)
Thank-you to Adriana and all of those who helped organize this special day of learning about Seneca Lake. Each speaker held my rapt attention as they shared their expertise and love of the lake and the region. I do plan on going on a woodland walk with Akiva which is posted on the Finger Lakes Land Trust website.
Loved the day! (3/4/15)
We had a great day. Enjoyed all the sessions and learned a lot. My thanks to all involved. My grandchildren also really loved the children's program. The program reinforces the need to get the Watershed Management Plan approved and enforced if we are to protect this resource.
Got to go. Need to find some acrons : ) (3/4/15)
I really appreciated Jack Rossen's archeological presentation Traces of Seneca, Cayuga and Earlier Cultures in the Finger Lakes. He emphasized the archeological evidence of a peace loving society in contrast to the "dominant narrative" we too often hear that native populations were prone to warfare and violence. It's programs like Seneca Lake Academy that allows our collective local voice and awareness to penetrate dominating assumptions from remote, callous, and exploiting influences. The "dominant narrative" condones our nation's very real history of genocidal practices. Let's not let it continue to justify pollution, environmental degradation through industrialization and catastrophic risk in the name of progress! (3/6/15)
